The Douglas Files follow the adventures of smart-aleck California P.I. Jackson Douglas. Possessing a razor sharp wit, a smart-aleck persona, and a never-ending repertoire of off-the-wall pop culture references, Jackson solves cases by picking up on subtleties and nuances that others miss and fitting the pieces together. With keen instincts and natural toughness, Jackson charges into the fray with borderline recklessness borne of personal tragedy. Winging solutions as he goes, he relies on a cadre of friends to help him crack the case—and keep him from cracking up.

Check out "Douglas Files Shorts." Black Male, WinterKill, and Short Sail are flashbacks to Jackson's life before he was a private investigator—but not before he found a way to get into plenty of trouble. As Good As Dead bridges the final two novels in the series. |
Jackson’s “Team”
Leroy: A widowed retired minister, Jackson’s grandpa is his oldest friend and confidant, and his best source of advice. Leroy bears the same scars as Jackson, which has only deepened their bond.
Reggie: Having been to the depths himself, Jackson’s best friend and wingman is able to lift him out of them. Soft on the inside, Reggie’s as rough and tough as they come when need arises, and always has Jackson’s back.
Mouse: Shy and socially awkward, Mouse is transformed in front of a computer. When not killing aliens in a video game, Mouse is there to provide Jackson with whatever technical assistance he needs.
Maggie: Fun and feisty, Maggie uses her position as a reporter to dig up information to assist Jackson. She delivers it while busting his chops and luring him to the edge of his powers of self-control.
Samantha: Sweetness epitomized, Sam is also strong enough to help carry Jackson’s personal struggles. Her skills and connections as a nurse also have a way of proving relevant to him professionally.
Ashley: Too cute to be a cop, Ashley is a no-nonsense detective indebted to Jackson . . . and continually called upon to repay him when Jackson’s private investigations run into a wall.
